Board Approves Additional Funding for BCSEG
Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s Board has approved funding an additional $500,000 for the BC Society of Engineering and Geoscience (BCSEG) – the new advocacy body for the professions. The funding will provide initial operating support for BCSEG until it begins accepting members in early 2025.

“The Board is committed to supporting the important work that BCSEG is embarking on,” said Michelle Mahovlich, P.Eng., P.Geo., Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s Board Chair. “BCSEG is providing a valuable service to the professions, and we know it takes a lot of time, effort, and financial support for new advocacy bodies to be successful.”

BCSEG is currently working with Engineers and Geoscientists BC to take on some historical advocacy programs, and recently surveyed its mailing list subscribers to identify the top areas future members want BCSEG to focus on. It is also establishing foundational business systems and recruiting its first executive director (job posting available here).

Engineers and Geoscientists BC initially provided $250,000 to BCSEG to support establishing the society as an official, legal organization. A motion brought forward to the 2024 AGM proposed that Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s Board consider additional funding for BCSEG.

The funding will be drawn from a reserve fund that was created by the Board to support BCSEG. The reserve fund draws from the net income of the Career Advertising and Affinity programs, two programs Engineers and Geoscientists BC is transitioning to BCSEG.
