Discipline Notice: Kenneth John Maddox

Mr. Maddox agreed not to reapply for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC at any time in the future.
In 2016, Mr. Maddox was retained to design a lock block retaining wall at a residential property in Prince George, BC. In the Consent Order, Mr. Maddox admitted that he demonstrated unprofessional conduct related to the project and agreed that, among other things, he:
- submitted a Schedule B Letter of Assurance confirming that the structural design of the wall substantially complied with the 2012 BC Building Code without performing any design calculations or obtaining the applicable geotechnical load data relevant to the design;
- provided a letter to the builder of the wall and the City of Prince George stating that he attended the site during construction, and confirmed that the wall followed the intent of his design in circumstances where the specified gravel backfill was not the only backfill used, the wall did not use the vertical lock-lock footprint he had specified, and the benched lock block at the top of the wall was not installed; and
- failed to document field reviews during the construction of the wall and to maintain quality management processes, including having the structural design of the wall reviewed by another registrant.
As outlined in the Consent Order, Mr. Maddox’s registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC is cancelled as of February 4, 2025. Mr. Maddox agreed to pay $2,000 towards the legal and investigative costs of Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
