Interprovincial Barriers Minimized by Efficient Approval with Public Safety Prioritized
Engineers and Geoscientists BC understands the current tariff dispute between Canada and the US poses challenges to our provincial and national economies. To address possible barriers to professional mobility across the country, the federal government and other provinces have recently considered recognizing a national credential for several professions.
Efficient Licensing in BC
Engineers and Geoscientists BC has long been a leader in establishing fair and accessible registration practices that help ensure a strong and sustainable flow of new, qualified registrants into the engineering and geoscience professions.Applications from professionals in good standing who are licensed in other Canadian provinces and territories can be approved in two to three business days. On average, 40 applications from other parts of Canada are processed per week. While fast, this process is rigorous: care is taken to ensure applicants are properly qualified and in good standing; imperative for public safety.
Public Safety Through Provincial Regulation
Regulation ensures engineers and geoscientists are held accountable for maintaining the ethical and professional standards needed to protect the public. Provincial and territorial regulation also permits disciplinary sanctions against those who engage in unsafe, unethical, or incompetent practices. We believe the needs of Canadians are well met by the processes in place and Engineers and Geoscientists BC will continue to monitor this situation as it unfolds.
