National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women
Posted on November 30, 2023
On December 6, 1989, an armed man walked into an engineering class at Polytechnique de Montréal and killed 14 women and injured 10 more. This act of gender-based violence led Parliament to designate December 6 as The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
On this day, we honour the memory of the 14 women who lost their lives, and the impact of this tragedy on their families, friends, and community. As the regulatory body for engineering and geoscience in BC, we are committed to tackling gender-based violence through our actions related to EDI and Reconciliation.
