Tailings Pond Breach at Mount Polley Mine
Posted on August 12, 2014
As the public safety regulator for engineering and geoscience in BC, our foremost concern is for the safety and welfare of British Columbians related to the ongoing situation resulting from the tailings pond breach at the Mount Polley Mine.
At this stage, the Ministry of Energy and Mines is still working to determine the cause of the incident. However we are watching the situation closely, and will be actively working to determine the facts around the involvement of any relevant APEGBC registered-professionals.
APEGBC and the public expect resource development projects to be conducted safely and professionally, and we are committed to upholding high standards of professional practice for BC engineers and geoscientists as they undertake this work.
