BC Codes and Practices Examiner Panel Member

Purpose

The Engineers and Geoscientists BC BC Codes and Practices Examiner Panel is responsible for developing, reviewing, and advising on the BC Codes and Practices Examination for designated structural engineer (Struct.Eng.) applicants. 

Reporting Structure

The panel reports to the Structural Qualifications Credentials Advisory Group.

Duties and Expectations

The BC Codes and Practices Examiner Panel members are responsible for:

• Preparing and maintaining the BC Codes and Practices Examination incorporating fair practices such as standard setting and statistical equating;
• Reviewing and updating the general examination question bank on an as needed basis;
• Engaging in exam development on an ongoing basis, including reviewing and field-testing new items (exam questions) submitted by external content developers (pending formation of the new BC Codes and Practices Exam Content Development Group);
• Reviewing formal requests for reassessment of results through applications for examination re-reads and developing communication to candidates with regards to feedback;
• Providing advice to the Structural Qualifications Credentials Advisory Group on examination or other academic matters as required; and
• Setting or providing guidance on the examination of applicants, as required.

Skills and Qualifications

Prospective members must:

• Be a registrant in good standing with Engineers and Geoscientists BC as a designated structural engineer (Struct.Eng.).

Term of Office

• Appointments are 2 years in length, renewable twice unless the Credentials Committee deems it appropriate to extend beyond the normal terms in accordance with the Committee Member Term Length Policy.

Average Time Commitment

• Meetings are normally held twice per annum and may be increased in order to manage the administrative business in relation to the BC Codes and Practices Examination.
• The panel may meet by any combination of members attending in person or through electronic means, where all members may simultaneously hear each other and participate during the meeting.
• Outside of meetings, panel members will develop, review and update examination questions and answers for the BC Codes and Practices Examination, and review and advise on examination results.
