Purpose:
The Engineers and Geoscientists BC Credentials Committee is a standing committee of the Council. Its mandate is to act on behalf of Council in matters related to the registration, licensing and enrolment of applicants and grades of membership; and to advise Council on policy, programs, process and financial matters related to this role.
Credentials Committee members represent a dedicated, diverse group of senior professionals who practice in a variety of disciplines and organizations.Reporting Structure:
The committee reports to the Engineers and Geoscientists BC Council.
Duties and Expectations:
The Engineers and Geoscientists BC Credentials Committee is delegated the council’s power and authority to, in accordance with the Act and bylaws:
- Grant the registration of applicants as registered members
- Grant enrolment to applicants for other grades of membership
- Grant a licence or limited licence to an applicant
- Assign examinations or coursework to applicants for registered membership, other grades of membership, licence or limited licence
- Publish guidelines for the administration of the registration and licensing processes.
Skills and Qualifications:
Prospective members should:
- be a professional engineer or professional geoscientist registered with Engineers and Geoscientists BC and should typically have a minimum of 10 years of licensure in British Columbia or another jurisdiction.
- have previous volunteer experience with Engineers and Geoscientists BC, as Competency/Experience Assessor, Registration Interviewer, Academic Examiner, Registration Mentor or member of a Branch Executive.
Term of Office:
- Appointments are 2 years in length, renewable twice for a maximum of 6 consecutive years unless otherwise extended by Council.
Average Time Commitment:
- Meetings are held approximately 10 times per year at the Engineers and Geoscientists BC Burnaby office and are typically held on a Wednesday evening from 4 – 6 p.m.
- The committee typically meets in person, and members may participate by telephone and web conference, where all members may simultaneously hear each other and participate during the meeting, and
- Before each meeting, members are required to review from 50 to 60 agenda items consisting of policy, appointments, and applications for membership or licence, to vote on items to be discussed and to be prepared for discussion.
