Michelle Mahovlich, P.Eng., P.Geo., FCSSE, FEC
Immediate Past Board Chair, Chair of the Nomination Committee
Michelle Mahovlich, P.Eng., P.Geo., FCSSE, FEC, recently stepped down from her role as the Director of Engineering and Public Works for the City of Langford where she worked for the past 14 years. She currently has her own firm practising primarily in municipal engineering. Previously, Michelle was the Project Manager that oversaw the remediation of the former cement plant at the 1,500 acre Bamberton site and then the site’s Development Manager. Her 17 years of private sector work experience included both geotechnical and contaminated sites engineering work. Michelle holds a Bachelor of Science in Geology and a minor in Biology from McMaster University, along with a master's degree in geological engineering from the University of British Columbia. Prior to being first elected to the Board in 2020, Michelle served on Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s Investigation Committee as Vice-Chair and as an executive member of the Municipal Engineers Division. Michelle spends much of her volunteer time with the University of Victoria, Camosun College, and local school districts promoting women in STEM and is a strong proponent of ongoing professional development for her work team. She currently mentors five EITs/GITs working toward their professional designations. Michelle is an experienced volunteer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC and has served on the Board for more than 4 years.
Dr. Brian Guy, P.Geo.
Committee Member
Dr. Brian Guy, P.Geo., was awarded the Westerman Award in 2017 in recognition of his contribution to the profession of geoscience in BC and across Canada. He earned his B.Sc. in Geography from UBC followed by his M.Sc. and PhD in Water Resource Engineering from the University of Guelph.
Brian has been a business leader and has served on several corporate and not-for-profit boards. He lives and works (semi-retired) in Vernon, BC, and he has been a strong advocate for both preparing for and minimizing the human contribution to climate change, and for women in engineering. Perhaps most impressive is his personal investment in establishing or strengthening groups and initiatives that lead to effective resource management decisions, especially in water management—from his support of basic science at the community level with the Okanagan Science Centre, to years of leadership with more broadly influential bodies such as the Canadian Water Resources Association and the Okanagan Basin Water Board. He currently serves on the city council and co-chairs a council committee in his home community of Vernon.
Brian also serves on the Standing Awards Committee with Engineers and Geoscientists BC and was previously a GIT Experience Reviewer for 11 years.
