What Do I Need to Study?

Examinations are based on the topics outlined in the engineering or geoscience syllabi.

You may use any textbooks you wish, but it is recommended to refer to the textbooks and study material outlined in each discipline-specific syllabus. Note that those applying to write geoscience examinations will also be contacted regarding the recommended study material. Textbooks are not available for sale at Engineers and Geoscientists BC.

A select number of past exams (prior to 2020) are available for information purposes only, however it should not be used as the main method of study. Exam formats are subject to change without notice.

Please note: If you have been assigned examinations after a detailed assessment of your degree, some of the experience you acquired prior to completing the assigned topics may not be credited towards the required four of satisfactory experience years until all assessed deficiencies have been cleared, either by successfully completing the necessary examinations or if applicable, by passing approved equivalent courses. Credit is typically given for up to one year of experience gained prior to completion of academic requirements if it is supervised by an appropriate professional and meets the Competency-Based Assessment framework. This is examined on a case-by-case basis.

How Do I Apply to Write an Examination?

You can register for examinations only if you have been assigned academic examinations after an assessment. Check your application status (login required) for more information about the status of your examinations.

Note that you do not need to take all of the assigned examinations at one time but you do need to make sure that you finish your academic examinations before your examination deadline, as specified in your exam assignment letter.

Please refer to the Academic Examination Regulations and Status of Online Academic Exams for information about the academic examinations. If you have further questions, you may find the answer on our Registration FAQs.
